Editorial Policy
Transparency is central to how IronSetLab operates. This page outlines how the editorial team selects products, conducts reviews, assigns scores, and handles updates and corrections.
Product Selection
Products are chosen for review based on three criteria: reader demand, market relevance, and category gaps. The team monitors search trends, reader requests, and new product launches to determine which equipment deserves a full evaluation. Manufacturers cannot pay for a review, and products are never selected based on affiliate commission rates.
When a product is provided by a manufacturer for testing, that fact is disclosed in the review. In most cases, the IronSetLab team purchases products at retail price to ensure complete editorial independence.
Review Methodology
Every review follows a structured testing protocol specific to its product category. Common evaluation criteria include:
- Build quality — Materials, welds, finish, and assembly precision
- Performance — How the product functions during real workouts over multiple weeks
- Ergonomics — Comfort, adjustability, and suitability for different body types
- Noise & footprint — Measured decibel levels and space requirements
- Value — Price relative to performance, compared to alternatives in the same category
- Software & connectivity — App quality, Bluetooth/ANT+ support, and content ecosystem (where applicable)
Testing periods range from two to six weeks. Quantitative data — noise measurements, weight tolerances, dimensional checks — is recorded and included in the review. The team does not rely solely on manufacturer specifications.
Scoring Criteria
Products receive an overall score on a 10-point scale, derived from weighted category scores. The weighting varies by product type — for example, noise levels are weighted more heavily for apartment-friendly equipment, while load capacity matters more for power racks.
Scores reflect how a product performs relative to others in its price class, not against an abstract ideal. A budget rower scoring 8.5 is not being compared to a commercial-grade machine — it is being judged against other rowers at a similar price point.
Update Frequency
Published reviews are revisited on a regular cycle. "Best of" roundup articles are updated quarterly or when a significant new product enters the category. Individual reviews are updated if the manufacturer releases a meaningful hardware or software revision, or if long-term testing reveals new findings.
Every article displays a "last updated" date so readers always know how current the information is.
Corrections Policy
Errors happen. When the editorial team identifies or is notified of a factual mistake — whether it involves a spec, a price, or a claim — the correction is made promptly. Corrected articles include a dated note at the bottom describing what was changed and why.
Readers can report errors or request clarification by emailing Contact Us. The team treats every correction request seriously and aims to respond within two business days.
Affiliate Relationships
IronSetLab participates in affiliate programs, which means the site earns a commission when readers make purchases through certain links. This revenue supports the cost of purchasing and testing equipment. Affiliate relationships have zero influence on product selection, review content, or scoring.
